Mary glared back at the girl. "A tone like that will get you nowhere. I never expected you to know it, so lower your hackles and shut up!" Robert murmured something under his breath then, chuckling. Mary glared at him, too. "Well, we are going to have to follow her."

"Says the courtier," Catherine muttered, turning away. "If you mean that we are required to follow my younger sister, I regret to inform you that I have no idea in which way she has traveled."

"It doesn't matter if you know," Mary said. "You cannot go any way. No, we will continue on to court. I will send some of the guards out to search, and if she is not recovered within a week, I have something else in mind."

Catherine's frowned was shifted from anger to worry. "We are just going to leave her out there...?"

"We have no choice," Mary said after a moment, letting a little bit of regret seep into her tone. "I don't like the thought of it either, but there's nothing else we can you. You cannot both miss your season. We can make an excuse for one of you, but both at the same time would look too suspicious." The Lady shook her head then, sighing. "Besides, if we reach Court and my men still haven't located her, I can ask Kelsey. He usually knows where his brother is."

Catherine shifted her gaze back to Mary, nodding slowly. "I suppose we have no choice...."

"No," Mary said stiffly, shaking her head. "We really don't."
-x-
"Jesus, man, they make this easier for us every time!" came the crow of a middle-aged man as he and his two companions dragged the girl through the forest. "Stopping right there like they did... who-wee! It's like they wanted us to snatch her up!" "Pshaw. Women are feeble creatures, and they get into trouble if you let them roam free," came the snort of another as he threaded his fingers through dirty brown hair. "Haha, yer just upset because you can't get yer wife to listen to ya!" came the sneer of the third, sounding considerably younger than the other two. "Shut yer mouth, kid!"

Catherine took a breath and then dipped her head. "Then let us not waste any further time dilly-dallying." She started for the carriage then. ((they've got Jane, right? Just wanting to make sure ))

ooc: okay. cool.
bic: Jane wasn't sure what to make of all this. She never, not once in her line of thinking, thought that this would ever happen to her. But then again, she wasn't surprised at all. They had been warned, and she had disobeyed; a welcome opportunity to these men. However, their comments were less than agreeable. "Women are not feeble," Jane protested, a defiant glimmer rising in her beautiful eyes.

"Haha! Is that why you can't escape?" the younger one taunted, dancing just ahead and out of her reach. "Pipe down, kid! We ain't the only people in these woods, y'know!" the second man snarled, tightening his grip on Jane. "Ain't the only people 't'all!" "I ain't no kid," William threw back angrily. "Boy, yer fourteen," came the returning growl. "Ma daughter is older t'an you! Listen ta Sam and shut the hell up!" "Easy, John," came Sam's warning.

"I could escape if I wanted to," Jane mumbled, glaring at nothing in particular. "And what do you want with me anyway? What benefit am I to any of you!?"

William stopped bouncing long enough to smirk at her. "Umm, you were dumb enough to wander out alone. Everyone knows that if you're going to do that, you'd better be ready to face a gang of thieves!" "Kid," Sam said with warning as William picked up a rock and flung it at the nearest tree. "We ain't nowhere near the other camps," William threw back. "'Sides, we're too close to ours for the others to bother us!" "Kid's got a point," John said gruffly. "Gonna see Ollie's camp comin' up soon."

"I am not unintelligent!" Jane shot back. "I just wanted to stretch my legs while my cousin had her episodes!"

"Women and their bloody episodes," John muttered. "It's like listening to Meredith all over again." "Er... Which one?" William asked. John glared at him. "Ma wife, boy!" "Well, your daughter has the same name! Sorry!" "We're here," Sam announced, glancing up at the massive trees over his head.
