Jane sighed at their bickering, though when Sam announced their arrival, she glanced up as well, eyes suddenly wide with keen interest. "These are some of the largest trees I have ever seen!"

John scowled, and Sam just shrugged. "Yeah, they're definitely bigger tha' the ones surrounding yer large houses!" William said smugly. There was no large clearing. Massive tree trunks dotted the land, many roots visible above the soil of the ground as a bunch of people moved to and from the little shelters that had been set up in the area, calling out to each other and laughing as they went. "Father!" came a voice as a young woman around seventeen ran up to them, her hair bouncing in natural curls around her face and down her back. She was dressed poorly, as was everyone here, having the refugee look about them, and she looked thin, but she threw her arms around John's shoulders and hugged him soundly anyways.

Jane studied her curiously, wondering why they were dressed the way they were. She wasn't used to seeing commoners of any kind, what with having been raised in a courtier surrounding, and so this was all new and confusing to her.

When Meredith pulled away, she smiled at William, who blushed lightly and ducked his head, which would have been fair-haired if not for all the dirt and grime streaked through it. John glared at the boy. "Good afternoon, Meredith," Sam said amiably. "Is Oliver around? Or Peter, for that matter?" Meredith shrugged. "I saw Peter with Ellie an hour ago, but - who's that?" Instantly, her pretty face narrowed, brown eyes flashing. "She reeks of wealth."

Jane furrowed her brow. "Pardon me? Very snobbish of you to state something so blunt at our first encounter!"

Meredith just glared at the girl soundly. "High and mighty words coming from your lot," she threw back. "I can't believe someone like you is lecturing me on being snobbish!" The girl turned to her father then, biting her lip. "Why'd you have to bring another one?" "Because it's Oliver's orders," John said simply.

Jane shook her head. "It is unfair to judge a person before you know them. I have never once considered the lower classes any lesser people. It was because of my upbringing, and my lack of being out and about that led me to not speak with any. In fact, to be brutally honest, I have never even seen anyone dressed the way you all are!" At the latter comment, she frowned. "And what do you mean by another one? There are more of my class here?"

William snorted. "So yer ignorant, too! Don't you talk high-'n'-mighty to us, 'nd don't you ever complain about things being unfair," he hissed before moving off after Meredith, not answering her question.

Jane watched them go, clearly taken aback by their words. She was confused and terribly frightened, but knew enough not to let on about the latter.

"C'mon, girl," John grumbled, grabbing her arm and dragging her forward.

Jane made an 'eep' sound as she was pulled forward.

As they walked through, people lifted their heads to peer curiously at what was going on. "Eh! Why look?" a woman from the crowd called. "It is just another rich witch!" "Calm yourself, Janey," came the placating reply from another person.

The younger of the Moore sisters blinked at the mention of her name. "What? How do you know who I am?"

"Shut up, girl; they ain't talkin' ta you," John snarled. "Not everything is 'bout you." Behind him, Sam sighed.

Jane immediately fell silent, finally allowing fear to settle in. She wondered absently if she was going to be missed in the world, figuring she was going to die here.
