Yami's Main Characters

Name: Ashley Emmerich
Nicknames: Ash, by Antonio (and sometimes Alondra). Ashley by everyone else.

Race: He speaks German, and is Austrian.
Current Missions: Avoid the pirates, like most people.
Occupation: One of the richer men, where he came from he was originally a lord. Though he moved across seas, he still retained that title. He's an aristocrat through-and-through.
Relations: His former wife, Elizabeth; Blake, the woman he now loves; Antonio, his childhood friend; Volker, his unseen childhood friend; others.
Appearance: See picture.
Personality: Well-spoken and highly educated, he was more aloof before moving to the Caribbean. Tends to devote more time to his hobbies than actual work. Bad sense of direction. Extremely frugal.
History: Born in Austria, Ashley is rumoured to be the only son of a rich man, but according to him, he spent a lot of time in Spain with Antonio and his friend from the lower class, Volker. After an unnamed incident, he left Europe and travelled across seas. He had originally moved to Boston, where he met (or, rather, was reunited with) his former wife, Elizabeth. When they moved to this town and discovered it to be an almost literal hellhole, at least in terms of the pirates, they divorced, still affectionate towards one another, but strictly platonic. A year after that, Ashley was brought aboard a pirate ship, where he met the brother-sister pirates Charlie and Blake, respectively. They proceeded to jump ship at first port, somewhere in Greece, before making their way to Spain, and to the home of Ashley's childhood friend, Antonio.
Other: Suffered from temporary blindness as a result from an infection. Has a scar stretching across the palm of his right hand, and no longer has full mobility of it, though he's working to regain it.

Personality: Generally very cheery and easy-going, with a permanent smile and laugh. However, he has a second personality, something only his closest friends no about - for he refuses to believe it. He also has a more serious side to him.
History: Antonio was best friends with Ashley, and both were acquainted with Jean, Sebastian, Ludwig, and Arthur as children. They grew up together, and remain close friends, even though Ashley had vanished from Europe for nae on five years.

Personality: Sharp-tongued, extremely critical, and often derisive, though that last part doesn't come into check unless she doesn't like you. She can be extremely ill-tempered, as certain things set her off easily, but she is fanatically devoted to her family, whom she often unconsciously includes Ashley (and, by extension, Blake) in.
History: Though Alondra knew Ashley as a child, she wasn't as close to him as Antonio was, especially since she was a woman, three years older than Antonio, and five years older than Ashley. She met Ludwig, the younger brother of Sebastian (Antonio's friend and Ashley's I-barely-put-up-with-you acquaintance), and they fell in love, even though she is six or seven years his senior. She had Carlos when she was twenty-six, Ludwig twenty.

Name: Arthur Kelsey
Nicknames: Arthur by his friends, Kelse, Captain Kelsey, 'Bloody pirate!', 'Traitor.'
Title: Captain

Current Missions: Lose the Navy.
Occupation: Pirate Captain - former English Privateer
Relations: N/A
Appearance: He has shaggy blonde hair and green eyes. He doesn't actually need the eyepatch, but wears it anyway to conceal a scar running across his left eye.
Personality: Cynical, sharp-tongued, and obstinate. When drunk, he changes from a relatively gentleman-like character to a "bitter delinquent."
History: Arthur was the youngest of three: two older brothers and an older sister. He became a privateer for England's ruling family, but later decided that, "hey, why the fuck should I give all this treasure back to England?" He all but tarnished the letter of marque and proceeded to not only retain the wealth he captured from Spanish and French (but mostly Spanish) ships, but he began attacking English ships as well. The English monarchy sent out a reward for his capture, but he fled the Mediterranean after a brutal battle at sea with a Spanish captain by the name of Antonio. Currently, he and the crew of the Hangman's Noose (formerly the St. Mary) are moving silently around the islands and towns, keeping their presence relatively low until the British Navy stops hounding them.

Race: Prussian/German.
Current Missions: Like the Captain, he wants to avoid detection by the Navy. However, he has a second primary goal, which is obvious to everyone in the crew, concerning a rather aloof aristocrat back overseas, Richard, who he's enjoyed tormenting since they were young.
Occupation: Pirate.
Relations: His younger brother, who is not part of the crew.
Appearance: Pale, almost-white hair with red-brown eyes.
Personality: Because they were forced to flee from Europe, Sebastian is rather pissed at Arthur, saying that "Volker is going to get up to something if I'm not back to protect Richard! Scheming little Scheiße." Has a rather high opinion of himself.
History: He grew up in Prussia (what is now known as 'East Germany') along with his younger brother, Lionel, and his grandparents. He was really close to his grandfather before leaving to sign up as a privateer, before turning rogue - but really, no one expected anything less of him.

Appearance: Long, wavy golden-blonde hair usually tied back in a red ribbon, blue eyes, tall.
Personality: He's a bit of a flirt, but when it all comes down to it, even Arthur cannot fault his loyalty to the crew.
History: He and Arthur go back a long, long time, when they first met at a party and got into an argument over whose country was better. Jean proceeded o taunt young Arthur until the boy started beating him up, prompting adults to quickly intervene and for him and Arthur to be escorted out by maids, as they were still children. They've had a deep-seeded rivalry ever since, but are quick to team up if there's a third party involved.

Appearance: Please refer to picture. She has a scar running down her back.
Personality: Mina can be either foul-tempered or constantly smug, and it's usually the latter. She seems to always be smirking triumphantly over something or other. However, she is very easy to goad into a fight, as she's extremely impulsive, headstrong and prideful. Some would even call her overconfident. Because of this, she never turns down a dare or a chance at gambling when it's offered. Spends a lot of time with Sebastian.
History: Wilhelmina grew up in a poor childrens' orphanage in an Irish village. When she was thirteen the English stormed the shores, taking many people captive and bringing them back to England itself. She existed like until she saw her chance and jumped ship, becoming part of Leif's crew.
Other: Very acrobatic. Bad at card games.

Appearance: Black hair, which is often tied in a low ponytail that hangs over his shoulder when not fighting.
Personality: Long-suffering. Superstitious. Brilliant artist. Generally easy going, though he gets annoyed very easily and is prone to snapping.
History: Yao was on one of the ships Arthur and his crew ransacked, and chose to join instead of, well, dying horribly.

Yami's Characters - The Generally Law-Abiding Seamen, or Those Kidnapped By Pirates

Name: Marceau Lovell
Nicknames: "Marcy" by those he knows
Title: None.
Age: Seventeen.
Gender: Male.
Race: French.
Current Missions: Unknown.
Occupation: Unwilling inhabitant of Dalian, brought by another pirate crew. He managed to sneak away, and is basically just trying to survive now.
Relations: He has an older brother by the name of Fabien, or so he claims.
Appearance: Marceau is small, not in the least bit intimidating. He tends to have a very vulnerable, innocent expression on his face, especially when he's pouting about something. When he thinks, he tends to look pensive, and his expression of triumph when he comes up with what he's looking for is rather endearing. He is constantly annoyed when people think he's younger than he is, and he gets even madder when people laugh when he's angry. Most of the time he just looks wide-eyed and a tad bit curious. He's actually rather effeminate looking, with a lithe, slender and delicate-looking frame, a small waist, and creamy skin. He has light blonde (almost white) hair and he gives the impression that he needs glasses to see, but either has none or misplaced them.
Personality: Communication issues tends to give the impression that Marceau is silent. However, when he finds someone who can understand them, he will gladly chatter away about anything and everything that comes to mind. Sometimes he sinks into dark, bleak moods that no one can seem to pull him out of, and it's best just to not talk to him when he's like that, or you're liable to learn a handful of French swearwords. Very temperamental and prone to drastic mood swings.
History: Not much is known about Marceau, only that he's quite obviously French and a little above the common folk, judging by the way he keeps himself clean, even as a beggar. He is from France, has an older brother, and his birth parents are known to be dead.

Name: Fabien Lovell
Nicknames: None.
Title: King's Privateer
Age: Twenty-four
Gender: Male.
Race: French/English.
Current Missions: Track down his brother, and exterminate all pirates he encounters by orders of His Majesty the King.
Occupation: English Privateer.
Relations: His younger brother, Marceau "Marcy" Lovell. Raven Wiltshire.
Appearance: Fabien is build more for force than his brother, and his strength lies in that. He has jet black hair, providing a sharp contrast with his brother, but that is attributed to Marcy only being his half-brother, though some people suspect they aren't related at all.
Personality: Fabien is extremely protective of Marcy, and is willing to go through hell in order to protect him. He's a very strong leader, but sometimes he's so focused on his goals he overworks his crew. He's also very distant with them, and rarely tells them the full details of what he's doing until it's too late, or he has to. Because of this, his crew often grumble about him, but they realize it probably only gets worse and keep their mouths shut. This greatly amuses Fabien's first mate, Raven.
History: Fabien was born to a high-ranking English aristocrat and his wife, a cousin of the current King. Both were dark-haired and dark-eyed, which is where he gets it from. However, when he was six a plague swept through Europe, and his mother perished soon thereafter. He grew up primarily in London itself, in his father's mansion, until his father left him when he was seven, vanishing from England. A year later he returned, taking Fabien to France with him to meet his new mother and baby brother. Fabien was angry and refused to see either of them until one day when he was walking around his father's new castle. He heard a desperate wailing sound coming from the nursery, and when he poked his head around the corner, he saw Marcy crying in his crib with the wetnurses trying frantically to calm him.
Annoyed with their incompetence, Fabien strode into the room and proceeded to glare down at the child, however he quickly changed his attitude for unknown reasons and began to shyly coddle him instead. Marcy quieted, and since then he has been the sun of Fabien's life.
When Marcy was two and just beginning to talk (only in French, mind you, which Fabien was fairly proficient in after two years of living in France), their father, a navel officer, was killed in a sea battle with a band of notorious and immensely famous pirates, who were rumoured to have amassed a great treasure. Heartbroken, his stepmother, a woman named Marienne, carried on the runnings of the household for many years until Marcy himself was eight (and old enough to be upset about his feminine appearance and how everyone usually thought he was a little girl) and Fabien was sixteen. It was then she was remarried. He always tried to keep Marcy away from their new stepfather (named Arnaud), who was pleasant enough, though Fabien disliked him.
When he was eighteen and Marcy ten, their mother died under mysterious circumstances, and Arnaud became the sole heir to the estates she had left behind.
The first thing Arnaud did was send Fabien away to England, and the older brother had no choice but to leave Marcy behind. Reintegrating himself into English society, Fabien became a privateer at twenty and returned to France to find that Arnaud had remarried. Marcy, then twelve, was taken with the woman, who's name was Annette, and Fabien left soon thereafter, confident that everything was fine.
Little did he know.
At twenty-three, he got a desperate message from Annette explaining that Arnaud had bet Marcy to a bunch of men at the tavern to cover his debts, and then had lost. When she and a sixteen-year-old Marcy had been walking in their garden, a bunch of black-clad men had jumped out and spirited Marcy away. He returned to England and, much to the amusement, excitement, delight and horror of his first mate, Raven Wiltshire, he began hunting down the slavers. He has been at it ever since.
Other: He can speak both French and English, and is a reputable tactician, though he often relies on Raven to carry out his plans.

Name: Raven Wiltshire

Age: Twenty-two.
Gender: Male.

Occupation: First Mate aboard Fabien's ship the Lucid Dreamer.
Relations: None.
Appearance: Raven has the sleek build of the bird he was name after, as well as the same black eyes. He is streamline and effective, with a certain dangerous cunning to him that either warns people away or draws them into a finely thrown-together web. When he's on board Fabien's ship, he usually wears a black and dark-blue gentleman's outfit with a black, blue-trimmed pirate hat.
Personality: Raven is suave and flirtatious, but he also has a serious side shown when in action against a foe. He is deadly cunning, and his wit is legendary within the English Court. However, he can be rather arrogant and dismissive at times, leading to troubles later when he pisses off the wrong person. He is extremely manipulative.
History: Raven's history is rather straightforward: He was born and raised in England to the current Duke of Devonshire, Robert Wiltshire, and his wife, Marian Wiltshire. However, as his father is still living and he is the second-eldest son, Raven is free to lead his own life. He met Fabien at one of the masquerade balls thrown by the King and struck up a conversation with the then-twenty-year-old, who had apparently just gotten his ship. Sensing that something else was bothering the man, something he wouldn't talk about, Raven distracted him by talking about the other nobles of the court. They soon became friends, rather oddly, and Raven agreed to become the First Mate on Fabien's ship.
Other: He cuts a strong line through the crew, and they are torn between fearing his ruthlessness and admiring the way he works. He's usually the one carrying out Fabien's plans due to his strong skill with any blade.

Personality: She's very bubbly and happy, and is generally a very outgoing person. However, mess with anyone she knows (specifically Ashley) and she'll rip you the fuck apart with a psychotic expression to boot. Tends to address Ashley as "Mr. Ashley," though she has always done that, and it's more affectionate.
History: Came from Hungary and moved to America, where she wed Ashley. When they moved to this town, they realized that they couldn't continue as a married couple, and parted under friendly terms. Upon his insistence, however, she remains in his house.

History: Taken by a pirate at a young age, and trained to do as pirates do. Took on the lifestyle and skill, and is now one of the most credible to her position. After a great deal of time, was taken aboard the ship The Pride where she fell in love with the Captain Jack (much to her brother's dismay). After a few years, they had become desperate lovers, until the day when the ship sunk, Jack deciding to go down with it. Plagued by grief, Charlie took her to a nearby port where they were picked up by Foriden who brought them aboard his ship. Said captain took a liking to her (even though he already had Tenaiya), and offered comfort and forgetting in the form of physical pleasure. She hardly answered when he took her into his cabin and began the lengthy two year affair. Then came the fateful day when they ported in Dalian, and met up with Ashley Emmerich. The crew had taken him hostage (along with his piano) and she grew fond of him.
After a few months, they learned of Foriden's choice of Tenaiya over Blake, and to save his sister from embarrassment and ridicule, Charlie took her off the ship when Ashley left. It wasn't long thereafter that, on the way from Greece, to Spain, Blake discovered she was pregnant with Foriden's child.

She didn't listen, and in the end, it caused her great pain. After a few months, Elizabeth (who was now his wife) gave birth to their child whom they called Cassandra. She was still young when Elizabeth left with her, never again to return. The day came soon thereafter when the ship sunk, Jack deciding to go down with it. His sister was plagued by grief, so he took her to a nearby port where they were picked up by Foriden who brought them aboard his ship.
