"Well, you see, this was when we was back in London, jes workin' in one of them pubs and the like..." Fylis zoned out as Aerin described the earlier chapter in her life (with the interesting accent she seemed to acquire whenever she was excited), back when she had fallen in love with a visiting sailor at the age of fifteen, serving beer in a pub while Aerin helped out in a hotel across the street. Their mother had made Fylis work in the pub simply because she had a more level head about her than Aerin, and would be less likely to do something that could hamper her later worth. So it came as a huge surprise when Fylis, shame-faced, had stammered that she was pregnant by a Navy sailor named Arnold. When she lost the child three months later, this news was met with a mixture of relief and sadness from everyone, and life had continued on. Fylis didn't let it affect her. After all, women lost children all the time, and it was better it died now before she had a chance to name it, talk to it, and otherwise grow attached to it. Child death with common among the poor. And it was always more painful to lose one's son or daughter later in their life.
Ashley had just finished tugging the loose white shirt over his head when the knock on the door came. Tucking the loose fabric into the tight(er) brown pants that Mathieu had provided with the shirt, he opened the door.
Sören keeled over in an overly dramatic death scene before opening his eyes and giving Blake a small, cheeky grin. The fifteen/sixteen-year-old (he didn't know for sure) then stood up, shook out his pale blonde hair, and glared at the hammock once again before brushing his shirt off. "Hey, man, why're you down here?" He asked Blake.

Amelia's smile vanished into that of grave concern. She glanced at Fylis worriedly. "You alright then?"
"The Captain want's breakfast," Tenaiya told Ashley swiftly, turning around before he could object to start barking orders to the others.
Blake rolled her eyes as she leapt out of the swinging bed-alternative gracefully. "I prefer not to be treated like I'm someone important. I'm part of this crew and I do my best to pull my own weight, not an English princess." She shook her head, her fingers raking through her long, wavy brown locks. "This is where I now reside. The cabin on deck belongs to our prisoner...for now. Once he's released, I'm sure it'll be up for grabs."

Fylis blinked. "Of course. Like I said at the time, and like I was just thinking, better to lose it before you can get attached. Besides, my family wouldn't have been able to afford it."
Ashley frowned, but he nodded quickly, slipping on his boots before leaving the cabin and making his way to the galley.
Sören shrugged. "That's cool."
Mathieu hurried back onto the deck, running into Alerick as the young man whistled and strolled across the deck. "Hey, Mattie! Where's the fire?" "Had to give... Ashley... something..." Alerick frowned. "Ashley?" "He's the man we picked up on shore." Alerick scowled, but he nodded.

Amelia nodded, turning to look over their crew. "Well, if it were to ever happen again, there's enough treasure accumulated on this ship to afford such luxuries."
Charlie sat at a table in the galley, not hearing Ashley's entrance when he arrived, and remained lost in his train of thought. After his tour of the ship and accumulation of numbers, he had come to think in the quietest spot he knew of.
Blake shook her head, pulling on her corset-like vest as she started for the stairs. She didn't want to go back to such a room, full of its fine furnishings and bedspreads. Though she did miss the comfort of the bed; it was much easier to sleep there than in these hammocks.

Fylis just shrugged and nodded. "I suppose." "'Course we won't need to worry about anythin' if you never get with a man again," Aerin said derisively.
If Ashley noticed Charles (which he did), he didn't say anything, instead choosing to avert his eyes and slip quietly over to where the supplies were located. The ring on his finger glinted in the light and made him pause slightly. It wasn't the ring from his marriage to Elizabeth - no, it was an old one, from so very, very long ago. "I'll go to the new world and bring you back tons of gold, Ashley!" Ashley shook his head fondly, a smile working its way across his lips. The silly delusions of children. Antonio had been a good friend.
Alerick jumped when Blake came up. "Warn a man, will ya?" He asked. "Almost ran in to you, you know."

Amelia rolled her eyes as she turned, starting back to her work. "Be careful, aye? I've been around for a lot longer than you have." The twenty-eight year old proceeded about the bow before leaping over the railing to the main deck below, starting for the mast.
Charlie looked up then, watching Ashley curiously for a few moments as he moved about the galley. "Miss your home? Your woman?"
Blake glanced at him for a moment before sighing. "Sorry. I wasn't paying attention. Carry on with...er...whatever it was you were doing." She moved around him, starting for wherever she thought she would be the most help.

"Only six years," Aerin bit back haughtily. "Nothing to be proud of!" "Aerin."
Ashley twitched lightly. Charlie's voice had been unexpected. "I've been moving around a lot," he admitted at last. "And Elizabeth and I had been divorced for awhile. I do miss her, though," he admitted at last.
Alerick gave her a saucy grin. "You mean nothing? Sure thing, Miss Blake!"

Amelia heard but chose not to answer.
Charlie simply nodded. "I would too, if I were in your place. Though I have to wonder; why the cause for the divorce? She is beautiful and strong-willed, that Elizabeth of yours. She reminds me of my own Elizabeth, before she up and left with our daughter." He hung his head a little, suddenly finding the grain of the table wood quite interesting. "I don't understand how you could just separate from such a woman. Maybe because I could hardly imagine leaving my own." There was a hint of sadness to his voice.
Blake paused, glaring at him over her shoulder. "Find something of interest to do then, Alerick. And honestly, drop the 'Miss'! I'm no different than the rest of you, whether the Captain sees so or not!"

Ashley, who had donned and apron, carefully moved to stand across from where Charlie sat. "Sometimes I wonder that myself, before realizing that it was because I was a coward," he said simply. "Elizabeth is a wonderful woman. I know I'm never going to find anyone just like her, and I have no one to blame but... but myself. For letting her go, even though we still loved each other."
Alerick shrugged. "Artie always told me to call a lady 'Miss', regardless of rank. One of the only things that stuck."

"Then why did you let her go? What were the reasons?" Charlie inquired, almost wondering if his own wife had left him for reasons akin to what Ashley may tell him.
"Don't bother using it on me," Blake told him flatly, continuing across the deck.

Violet eyes blinked solemnly. "Because, like I said, I was a coward. She didn't even leave me - in fact, we continued to live together, just not as man and wife anymore. Living in that town... It even got to her. We couldn't deal with the stress. "I always despaired that one day she would find someone else and choose, by her own free will, to leave me. I was hardly what you'd call... aggressive, I suppose. Never was much of a fighter. I'm a musician. An aristocrat. A bloody nobleman. What the hell could I offer her, really? She was a fighter. Always had been. She loved excitement. I could never give it to her. And I couldn't defend her from the pirates."
"Whatever you say, Miss Blake," Alerick said with another saucy wink before chuckling.

ooc: Like...so-and-so likes so-and-so, but they love someone else, and that person has a thing for this person over here. That sort of thing.
bic: Charlie sighed, nodding with understanding. "And see, my wife left me for that exact purpose. I was a pirate, and she a noblewoman. She grew tired of what I was and what we, as a crew, do to other people. She didn't want her daughter growing up with that, and so she left with Cassandra."
Blake ignored him then. She didn't know how to deal with men anymore, not regular pirate men, anyway. It had been nearly two years now since the Pride sunk, and she hadn't once given in to approach any one else. She hadn't even allowed herself to find another man attractive. It always returned to the feelings that she was betraying the man she had loved, and it hurt her deeply. Swallowing past the lump in her throat which was just beginning to form, she climbed up the stairs to the upper deck, seeking out any form of work that she could take care of. This led to the climbing up the rigging until she was sitting in the crow's nest, staring out across the water, while Violet did her job silently.
Merrina grumbled as she exited the Crew's Quarters. She had only managed a few hours of sleep before she as awakened by some shouting or something. She couldn't make out what the words were, but it was something...futile, by the sounds of it. She started up the stairs, tying her bandanna around her head as she did so.
ooc: I have to go now, but I'll talk to you tomorrow or whatever. Night!

ooc;; Aww D: Goodnight, then! I hope you're on tomorrow!
bic;; "Only my wife didn't leave me. She was actually opposed to the separation, but... I suppose diplomacy can be a curse, can it not?" He turned sorrowful violet eyes to the other. "But you had a child, too. I'm so sorry."
Alerick rolled his eyes. Honestly, that woman. Of course he knew the basics of what had happened on the Pride (it's amazing what people would say when Mathieu was around, him being nye invisible, after all, with people prone to forgetting his existence entirely), but really, how long ago had that been? Grumbling lightly, Alerick shouted mumbled something about "woman and their ladies hearts" before continuing down the into the hull where the crew slept.

ooc: I am on today bic: "Please, don't be," Charlie insisted, sighing a little as he stood. "It was my own choice to stay behind when she left. I'm sure many could blame me for the separation, but I would not choose the life of a nobleman over this. What we do here, is far more freeing than any occupation a nobleman would step into." Blake watched him disappear with a sigh, shaking her head as she continued to lounge about the crow's nest. Merrina watched Alerick move past her, and down below deck, before scanning the premises for reasons as to why he had just said what he had. Women and their ladies hearts?! What the heck was that supposed to mean?!

bic;; "While I am inclined to... disagree with that last particular outlook, I suppose, ah, that saying..." Ashley closed his eyes, his expression pensive. "Ah, yes: To each his own. Some people aren't meant for some things."
ooc;; Hn... Who else to use...
