Rowan brought a hand up to her face, tugging the black leather off of her fingers. "They never specifically ordered the capture of anyone - we're plenty stable right now in terms of money, and Oliver laughed when he was told the news by one of the men who claims to have brought you in." "How do YOU know this?" Kate demanded, crossing her arms. "I was there," Rowan responded, the eyebrow still arched. "Obviously."

Jane paled considerably. "So I was...brought in for no reason...? I-I am not needed...for anything...?"

"Oh, no, you're still needed," Rowan replied, amusement sparkling in her cat-like golden eyes. "Trust me when I say that. After all, money can't last forever, can it? It's already autumn, too - early autumn, at least..."

The girl dropped her gaze to the ground momentarily as she fiddled with a lock of hair. Her gaze lifted to Rowan, though not quite meeting the other woman's eyes. "How long am I going to be here...?" she asked quietly, meekly.

Rowan snorted. "Until arrangements can be made, I suppose," she said. "Peter's generally good with that stuff, but he doesn't say much - try asking Oliver when you see him. He's in the crowd somewhere while the rest of the party hands out food."

Jane's shoulders dropped, and her eyes closed as her chin fell a little as well, her body language giving off that she was unsure of what to do or how to act, despite the air of propriety constantly about her.

"Hey," Kate said, trying to make her voice sound a bit more soothing than she felt at the moment. "Don't worry, I'll... we'll... we'll work something out, yeah? You won't be here forever, if it distresses you so greatly..." Rowan rolled her eyes, glancing towards where Marion stood watching them with disdain.

"I cannot even be here now! I have duties to uphold...to make my father proud of me! If I don't make my debut in Court soon, then...." Jane trailed off, not wanting to think of what would happen.

"Debut?" Kate asked, confused. She looked at Rowan, but for once, the proud huntress had no answer save a shake of her head. "What's a debut?" "A sort of 'coming out' season for young women, I believe," a blonde man said as he passed, chuckling. A stern-looking woman trailed behind him, sharp eyes showing her disapproval.

Jane nodded vigorously. "It's not just a coming out opportunity, but the chance for nobleman to show the Court what sort of daughters he has for the choosing. All men want an advantageous marriage for their families. My older sister Catherine believes that our father is more concerned about his daughters being taken care of. Our mother could care less and would prefer the money. She's trained both my sister and myself since our births!"

"Trained? To do what?" Kate frowned. "You have servants to do it all for you, don't you? Doesn't seem like that leaves much else, 'sides readin' and stuff. But it does sound magical... does everyone dress up? Is there fancy food and clothing?" Rowan rolled her eyes again. "Useless stuff, you mean?"

Jane glared at her. "It's not useless! It's highly important in my society! Pleasant manners, good grooming, knowing when is appropriate to speak and when isn't, not fiddling with one's hair, not mumbling, walking with purpose rather in a slothlike gait...."

Rowan said nothing, merely shaking her head as a long, awkward pause extended over them. Finally she turned and walked away, catching up to a dark-haired man with the shadow of a scowl on his face. "Don't listen to her - she always gets like this after a successful hunt," Kate said. "I think it sounds wonderful!"

Jane shook her head. "And I only told her a small fraction of what is actually involved. Being a nobleman's daughter is a lot harder than it looks. There's no freedom, and everything one does is accounted for something."

"But like I said earlier, at least you're fed and provided for..." Kate shrugged then, shaking her head. "Either way, I imagine Oliver's contacting his brothers right now... you should have nothing to worry about in terms of getting home."
