Ashley did so, though his movements were more stiff and refined than usual. "Arthur was confined to bed for three days after the fight. And Antonio didn't remember any of it. God, it was terrifying. He looked at me like I was the one who was losing it. We even argued over it."

Blake scooted closer to him, grasping his arm gently as she pulled him the closing distance. She then leaned him back against her gently, beginning to stroke his hair. "That's terrible."

Ashley shut his eyes. "It was terrifying. Alondra and I didn't tell him - she had tried telling him multiple times, but he never believed her. Not even Arthur did anything. The episodes became less and less as we got older, and according to Alondra, this was the first one in six years."

"I can see why it's such a big deal then...." Blake murmured, sighing lightly as she continued in her attempts to make him relax. "I appreciate your telling me, Ashley. At least I know what went on this afternoon, now."

"I feel like I'm overreacting," Ashley said almost absently. "But to us, it was a huge deal. Everyone who knew about it was sworn to silence, and Antonio's parents concealed it from the public, and silenced anyone who knew about it. The doctor who treated Antonio, the servants who pulled them apart, anyone else in between... If society ever found out, the Carriedos knew their name would be ruined."

"That is understandable," Blake murmured, looking down at his face. "You have the right to be acting the way you are...it's...difficult when people you care about are plagued by...something akin to illness."

Ashley shook his head and sighed, his eyes sliding open as some tension gradually bled from his body. "God, he's one of my best friends, and we still, even now, can't help him."

"Maybe we'll come across an apothecary somewhere that...will know of what can be used to fix him...hm? We can always hope, anyway." Blake smiled a little.

"I don't think there is a cure," Ashley said, but didn't elaborate. He just looked tired.

"Well, you never know, right? I mean...medicine is advancing every day...is it not? Maybe somewhere, someday, there will be. In the mean time, perhaps someone has knowledge of how to help, at least in those situations, hm?" She continued to stroke his hair gently, taking note of his expression.

"Perhaps..."

"It'll do no harm in...looking, even if we don't tell anyone about his...erm...condition...." Blake shrugged lightly. "But I think you should stop thinking so much on this right now. You look so worn out."

Ashley closed his eyes again. "Maybe you're right..."

"You can worry about it again in the morning, if you so desire, but right now," she cupped his chin in her hand lightly so that she could tilt his head upward, just a little. She could now effectively look into his face. "Now...you need sleep. It's been an...interesting sort of day...and some rest will do you good, love."
