"Most of the time, they are not. Alondra's not usually this snappy, either. More than likely I suspect she doesn't like being talked down to - no one does. And the way Georges talks make it seem like he's talking down to everyone. I really can't blame them. He even annoys me." Jean glanced at Georges. "No offense meant. Antonio..." Jean shook his head. "Antonio's a different matter."

"What do you mean? I did not catch all of what he said. He seemed downright furious though. I don't find Georges to talk down to anyone, he simply has a passion for beauty that he expresses out loud." And romance she muttered to herself remembered how touched Georges had been by her story when he discovered that she was a girl. It had been to see the lover's reunited that he'd insisted on accompanying her.

"Yes, but the way he does it..." Jean shrugged. "It is not my place to criticize your friend, at any rate. And Antonio? It's best you don't know the details, but he wasn't happy about what your friend told his sister. It's never good to anger a man with two separate personalities."

Ashley and Alondra talked lowly to Antonio for a few minutes, the Spanish confused look changing very rapidly to one of... well, it was hard to tell.
"I have to go," Ashley murmured. "Will you two be all right?"
"Yeah, fine," Alondra said, shaking her head.

Georges had already stormed off to God knew where.
"Alondra, I must clear my friend's name." She had picked up on the language since their departure but still spoke in broken and informal english. "Georges is most humble man. Ee's, ow you say, words are in awe not condescendence." The last word she translated from french by adding an english sound to it, hoping it had the same meaning. "Ee was offend by you dislike 'im. I make sure he quiet now."

Alondra's eyes were narrowed as she turned to the other sailor. Ashley had slipped away quietly, and Antonio was shaking his head, as if he refused to consider something.
"He deserves to be offended," she replied heatedly. "To insinuate that I cannot - or that I hate - love simply because I have a rather ill-concealed loathing for poetry?"
Antonio bent down to pick up his nephew.

Blake had changed from her day wear into a comfortable sleeping gown as soon as she had entered the cabin, and now sat on the bed provided there, legs stretched just a little as she cradled her belly in her hands. It felt surreal; she was due in less than two months time, under extraordinary circumstances, and now, had the love of a man whom she loved in returned. She never, in her wildest dreams, would've expected things to go that way.

"I do not mean to offend too." Shrinking back at the thought of being expulsed, the girl despite her fear, curiously asked. "Why you 'ate 'im to begin wit, why you 'ate poet. I 'member ee only insult you after you insult 'im." Her curiosity seemed to push her to go beyond the safer route sometimes, yet Aurora could stop the woman from hating her as well if Aurore could learn to not repeat George's offending actions.
