Littlestep looked up from the warriors den and saw his long lost mate enter into the clearing. A shiver went down his spine as he tingled with excitment. He was getting worried about Nightshadow and Wheatstalk's argument, but he didn't care. "Scareltcoud!" he cried.

Nightshadow spun around, his eyes flooding with tears. He said nothing and went into the shadows, unseen. He headed towards the forest.

"Nightshadow!" Wheatstalk called after him. She didn't even notice the return of Scarletcloud, "Nightshadow come back!" she sobbed out into the air. She sniffed the air and ran off into the woods in a blind haze.

Nightshadow, still invisible to the eye, was sobbing too. He went to a place in the forest where he knew Wheatstalk would find him- the place they first secretly met in the trees.
He was to remain in the shadows until she appeared.

"Where are you Nightshadow?" Wheatstalk cried as she wobbled through the woods. Tears blocked her eyes and she kept tripping over tree roots and getting tangled in thorns, "Nightshadow!"
